MAPLEWOOD'S DOUBLE 9/11 CEREMONY AND MEMORIAL

Maplewood honored the victims of Sept. 11, 2001 in a dual ceremony on Sunday, the 15th anniversary of the deadly attacks.

First, a memorial service with public officials and religious leaders was held at the Springfield Avenue Gazebo.

Soon after, just a few yards away, the Maplewood Fire Department led a re-dedication of the 9/11 memorial outside of the Hilton Library, where a steel girder from the Twin Towers had been placed years ago.

With the cooperation of the fire department and the firefighters union, the site was renovated with a bigger memorial and a plaque explaining its origin.
