Maplewood opened its arms to Olympic fencer and Columbia High School alum Ibtihaj Muhammad on Saturday with a parade and celebration that included a motorcade procession and walk through Maplewood Village.
Hundreds of residents turned out to praise Muhammad, who won a bronze medal in fencing in Rio, as well as broke new ground for Muslim athletes by being the first to compete in the Olympics wearing a hijab.
