LEAF BAGGING STREETS WILL NOT GET IN-STREET PICK-UP

If you live on the 17 streets that are being asked to bag leaves this fall as part of a pilot program you may be cited if you still rake them into the street, Mayor Vic Deluca said Monday.

And the Township will not pick them up unless they're bagged.

"The leaves will sit there," Deluca said at Monday night's TC meeting. "You can't expect people to comply if they see others who don't comply."

Deluca made the comment after two residents spoke about the program, which was implemented for the first time this leaf season. See more background on which streets are affected HERE.

One resident who lives on Lexington Ave., which is among the bagged leaf pilot streets, said he had noticed some neighbors not bagging leaves and instead placing them in the street. He said the public works department had told him those leaves would be collected even though they are breaking the pilot program requirement.

Deluca said public works had been instructed not to collect leaves raked into the street on those streets. The Township also said that if residents on those streets rake them into the street they may be cited by code enforcement officials.

The mayor said the pilot program is going well, but also with some concerns. 

"We're getting some complaints from people who say it is difficult bagging," he said. "We are also hearing the collection is going quicker."
