GAS ODOR CAUSES SOMS EVACUATION

From the school district today:

This morning at approximately 10:55am, South Orange Middle School was evacuated when staff noticed a gas-like odor.  Students and staff were safely evacuated as a precaution and the South Orange Fire Department and PSEG were contacted.

The South Orange Fire Chief examined the scene, and PSE&G arrived shortly afterwards and gave clearance to return to the building.  Students and staff returned to the building at approximately 11:50a.m.  Administration changed the timing of the 1st lunch period.  The remaining periods will remain the same and school will be dismissed on time.

As always, student safety remains a top priority in our district.  We are grateful to the South Orange Fire Department and PSE&G for their quick response and assistance.
