SHOPLIFTERS AND THEFTS FROM UNLOCKED VEHICLES LEAD POLICE WEEK

From Maplewood Police today:

April 3, 2017; Attempted Burglary; During the daytime hours, entry was attempted to a home on Highland Ave.  The homeowner returned home to find a chair placed under a window and the screen pushed up.  The window was locked and entry was not made.

April 3, 2017; Shoplifting; At approximately 4:15 PM a male walked out of 7-11 on Irvington Ave with candy and without paying.

April 3, 2017; Shoplifting; At approximately 7:15 PM a male attempted to walk out of a liquor store on the 1700 block of Springfield Ave without paying for a bottle of liquor in his possession.  He was confronted by an employee, put down the bottle and fled the store.

April 4, 2017; Theft from Auto; At approximately 11:15 PM a resident observed a male smash the window to a vehicle on Indiana St.  The male then removed a small amount of cash that was left in view and fled in an awaiting vehicle.

April 5, 2017; Shoplifting; At approximately 10:30 AM Officers observed a disturbance at the Extra Supermarket on Irvington Ave.  Upon investigating the disturbance, it was discovered that a female, Robin Roland, age 49 of South Orange had been stopped after attempting to shoplift from the store.  She was taken into custody.

April 5, 2017; Thefts from Autos; Sometime over the overnight hours, two unsecured vehicles parked on Sommer Ave were entered.  Change and a CD were reportedly stolen.

April 5, 2017; Motor Vehicle Theft; At 5 AM a Ford van was stolen from the parking lot of Valero Service Station of Boyden Ave.  It was later recovered in Irvington.

April 6, 2017; Theft from Auto; During the overnight hours an unsecured vehicle parked on Berkeley St was entered and cash removed.

 April 8, 2017; Theft from Auto; At approximately 10:15 Hrs, a male was observed in a resident’s unsecured vehicle on Orchard Rd.  The resident confronted the male who fled the scene prior to police arrival.

April 9, 2017; Theft from Auto; During the overnight or morning hours an unsecured vehicle parked Plymouth Ave was entered and gift cards stolen.

April 9, 2017; Theft from Auto; During the overnight hours two unsecured vehicles on Oakland Rd were entered.  A wallet was stolen from one vehicle and change from the second.
