ATTACK WITH MACHETE LEADS TO ARREST

From Maplewood Police:

On June 2, 2017 at approximately 7:00 PM, Officers were dispatched to Valley St near Hixon Pl for the report of a male with a machete.  A 15 year old male reported that he was approached by a male carrying a machete in a sleeve.  The male approached him and said “Give me the money, Where is the money.”  The male then reportedly struck the juvenile on the back with the sleeved machete and struck his bicycle with it.

The male later identified as 61 year old Russell Mohammed of South Orange was located on Valley St and was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Assault and Weapons charges.  Through investigation, it was learned that Mr. Mohammed had money stolen from him in South Orange just prior to this incident and initially believed that the juvenile he approached was the actor in that theft. 

The juvenile is not believed to have been involved in the theft from Mr. Mohammed.  The juvenile victim was not injured during this incident.
