GAS ODOR SPARKS 30 MINUTE MMS EVACUATION

From Maplewood Middle School today:

At approximately 8:45am on June 8, 2017 Maplewood Middle School faculty, staff and students evacuated the building under the direction of the Maplewood Fire Department. The reason for the evacuation was that custodial staff smelled gas in the kitchen. The source of the smell was an oven that will be repaired.

8th graders departed MMS at approximately 8:20am for a field trip and did not participate in the evacuation. Staff and students returned to the building at approximately 9:15am. The evacuation occurred without incident and SOMSD procedures were followed.  Students conducted themselves in an orderly fashion throughout the evacuation.

As always, student safety remains a top priority in our district.  We are grateful to the Maplewood Fire Department for their quick response and assistance.
Regards,

Dara Crocker Gronau
Maplewood Middle School Principal
