SCHOOL DISTRICT WON'T DISCLOSE WHAT IT PAID IN ARBITRATION AWARD

When the Board of Education met on October 19 for their regular monthly meeting, they approved an item described only as a "confidential arbitration award" for an unnamed employee.

See it below:

RESOLUTION            3338

SUBJECT:              APPROVE CONFIDENTIAL ARBITRATION AWARD – EMPLOYEE #337

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education approves an award to employee #337 as a result of arbitration.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Board is directed to award Employee #337 for losses pursuant to the arbitrator’s decision.

As you can see, it makes no mention of what the award was for, how much was involved or why it was paid.

We reached out to the district to ask what was involved and the amount paid, not the identity of the person or even specific details.

The district declined, offering this response:

Makes you wonder what was approved and how many similar secret payments are authorized.
