TEACHERS VOTING ON NEW CONTRACT TODAY; SPECIAL BOARD MEETING ON TUESDAY

It appears that a final agreement has been reached on the teachers union contract with members of the South Orange Maplewood Education Association (SOMEA) voting on a new deal today and the Board of Education scheduling a special meeting on Tuesday to apparently vote on the final agreement.

We told you in September that the SOMEA board had announced a new deal, but without specific salary data or other details.

As of late October, salary guides had still not been agreed to and no vote had been set.

But as the SOMEA website states, voting by teachers is underway today:

REMINDER Members! Ratification of the contract will be held TODAY  Monday, November 9, 2015, from 3:30pm-4:30pm, at the CHS auditorium.
Voting should take approximately 5 minutes. The SOMEA Negotiations Team will be available during the ratification process to answer questions members may have about the pending contract. Members are welcome to stay until all the votes are counted, but are not required to do so.
And this notice from the school district indicates a special meeting to deal with the contract, and likely approve the agreement, is set for Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.:
