TOWNSHIP ISSUES SNOW STORM WATCH ALERT

The township issued this warning today which, among other things, reminds you they have no de-icing salt:

Winter Storm Watch in Effect from Late Wednesday Night

A winter storm watch is in effect from late tonight (Wednesday) through late Thursday night. Possible snow accumulation of up to 4 to 8 inches which may mix or change to rain before continuing to snow.
The Township of Maplewood reminds you that we are without road salt and that will result in roadways being more slippery than normal. If you do not have to go out, please stay off the roads. Do not park on the streets (overnight parking is canceled) as it will interfere with snow plowing. Do not plow or deposit any snow onto the public road. It is illegal when done by plow, snow throwers or manually.
There is also no parking in any area designated by permanent or Emergency No Parking Signs. Vehicles that are parked in violation of parking regulations during the snow emergency are subject to summons and removal by tow. Residents are asked to limit their use of the roadways during and immediately after the storm so snow removal and emergency vehicles have unobstructed access to the roadways.
If it does snow and there is snow on the ground and roads, the Jitney Service will be canceled for Thursday.
Winter storms can often hide fire hydrants under a mountain of snow making them impossible to find quickly. The Maplewood Fire Department would like to remind residents to please “Adopt-a-Hydrant” and shovel in front of and around the fire hydrant closest to your home so that firefighters can see and access it. If possible, please clear the snow three feet in all directions and clear the access from the street to make it possible for firefighters to attach hose lines to the hydrant. Seconds count during a fire and the time it takes a firefighter to dig out a buried hydrant could make all the difference in the outcome at a fire. Firefighters will be checking hydrants and digging them out as needed after the storm, but any assistance residents can provide will be helpful in the event of a fire. We realize that the last thing anyone wants to do after shoveling out their property is to clear more snow but the extra effort could be life-saving.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Stay safe.
