ADAMS/RYAN TC ELECTION SIGNS NOT ALL UNITED

Politics might make strange bedfellows, and strange lawn sign mates. But not always.

We told you a few days ago that the signs were out for incumbent TC member Jerry Ryan and challengers Nancy Adams and Greg Lembrich.

All three are vying for the two seats up for grabs in the June Democratic primary. Incumbent Kathy Leventhal is not running for re-election.

Adams and Ryan, who were both endorsed by the Maplewod Democratic Committee, are running together.

Most of the time.

Signs can be found around town for Ryan and Adams, but others just for Adams.

We asked her about this. She said some people wanted a sign to promote her campaign, but not Ryan's.

"Jerry and I are both endorsed by the Maplewood Democratic Committee, but there were some people who wanted me to run, but they either aren't familiar with Jerry or didn't want to commit to supporting more than one candidate," Adams said. "Because there were people who wanted a sign with just me on it, we decided to order some of them."

She said there are 250 Adams/Ryan signs, and 50 Adams-only.

"We have a joint account and then we have separate accounts if we want to do separate things that support ourselves," she said.

You may recall that last fall Mayor Vic De Luca and TC Member India Larrier did not campaign together even though they also shared a DCC endorsement. They revealed it was because they disagreed on gay marriage, which the mayor supports and Ms. Larrier does not.

Let's see how this Ryan/Adams difference affects things, if at all.

The primary is June 2. Last day to register for the primary is May 12.

  1. In other words, Adams like most residents doesn't want anything to do with Ryan.
