DAIBES PROJECT AGAIN DELAYED

The troubled Daibes mixed-use housing/retail complex being constructed at Burnett and Springfield avenues is again stalled, according to Township officials.

Mayor Vic De Luca and Township Attorney Roger Desiderio updated residents Tuesday night with word that the project was again behind schedule. They also said that Daibes officials had been asked to attend the meeting and explain the delay but did not.

"I explained to them that the governing body was quite dissatisfied with the lack of progress," Desiderio told the TC, adding that there was an issue with environmental elements of the project, but did not elaborate.

The project, which first broke ground more than two years ago, has seen previous delays and was to have been completed by the end of June. At this point, wooden structure beams and other basic elements have been built, but nothing in recent weeks.

We stopped by to check on the location and found a portion of the gate surrounding the site had been opened, which meant vandals or children could easily enter the site and either steal items or possibly be injured.
