MIXED-USE DAIBES PROJECT DELAYED AGAIN

Happier Days: Daibes groundbreaking Jan. 2013
The troubled Daibes construction project at the corner of Burnet and Springfield avenues appears to be delayed again, according to developers who offered an update at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting.

We have been following for more than a year the delays that at one point had the TC discussing cancelation of the project last year.

After giving the developers of the mixed-use site more time, the Township was told a roof would be placed atop the structure by the end of August. Representatives from Daibes appeared at Tuesday's TC meeting to say that had not occurred, noting problems with a neighboring business related to access for a cooling unit.

The newest estimate for completion of the retail housing complex is next spring.

Frustrated Township committee members said they wanted to keep the project on "a short leash." Mayor Vic De Luca told the developers, "We'll keep an eye on you."
