POST OFFICE SHUTDOWN MOVES TO NEXT PHASE

The next move in the eventual shutdown of the Maplewood Post Office in Maplewood Village will occur later this month on Sept. 20 when the back sorting area of the current post office is closed down and carriers are relocated to a location in Union.

However, Postal officials tell Maplewoodian.com that the shift will not affect customers.

The township has already announced that when the Maplewood Village location is eventually closed in February to make way for the incoming retail-housing development, postal services will be moved down the street to 195 Maplewood Avenue.

Postal officials issued this statement to Maplewoodian.com on Wednesday:

The carriers will be repositioned but there is no impact to local customers. Any
oversized or signature-required mail that cannot be delivered will be available at
the Maplewood location. No change to current operations should be expected. No
one should see a change.
