"EMERGENCY" AMBULANCE PURCHASE DELAYED DUE TO MINIMAL TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE ATTENDANCE

The purchase of a new ambulance for the Maplewood Fire Department, which had been listed on the Township Committee agenda Tuesday as an "emergency resolution," will be delayed at least two weeks because only three TC members were at the meeting.

The new ambulance is needed to replace one that was destroyed in a fire last month. But since TC Members Jerry Ryan and Marlon Brownlee were absent last night, the TC did not have the two-thirds vote required to approve the $260,000 needed for a new ambulance.

Mayor Vic De Luca said the funding approval would be considered at the next meeting on Oct. 20. He said the Township has a reserve ambulance in use and has borrowed an ambulance from Union Township to cover the needs in the meantime.

"We can assure our residents we are still providing first class, first aid response," he said.
