POST OFFICE PLAN GETS PLANNING BOARD APPROVAL; STILL LITTLE NOTICE

The Planning Board on Tuesday night gave unanimous approval to the former Maplewood Village post office redevelopment plan, but with specific stipulations that include moving the building slightly closer to the Village Coffee parking lot.

Following the fifth meeting on the issue and hours of review and questions, the board voted to approve the site plan from JMF Properties. It includes a three-story building with 20 apartment units and five retail shops.

More background on the concerns from opponents HERE.

The opposition is not over as the Planning Board is holding a hearing in November to review an appeal of the Maplewood Village Alliance approval of the plan and claims from Village Keepers Inc. that the Township did not show a financial hardship before planning to sell the post office and demolish it.

Once again, Tuesday night's meeting was held without any notice to the public beyond the legal public notice. There was no mention of the meeting on the Township website front page and it was not broadcast on television again.
