The board held yet another special meeting on Wednesday, this time at South Orange Middle School because the board meeting room on Academy Street remains closed off due to a ceiling collapse back in September.
This one included the appointment of a new teacher for South Mountain School to replace Jennifer Feinberg, who died tragically last month. The board also made other appointments and adopted the job description for the special services director, who is now being sought.
The change included a change in the title to Youth Development and Special Services, although with little explanation as to why.
The meeting was the third special meeting in the past two months and the sixth since July.

But the meeting had very little advanced notice, as many of these recent meetings have failed to as well.
Nothing was posted online until Monday and no agenda documents were posted until about four hours before the meeting. There was also only one public comment portion compared to most meetings that have two. And, for the second meeting in a row, no board attorney was present.
Such limited information contrasts with the robocall that many parents received this week from Ramos urging them to attend the next Education Summit set for next week. It came via the informational call system usually used for emergencies, which likely frightened at least some parents.

It would seem that the board could go to as much trouble to inform residents about special board meetings, and provide the usual public comment opportunities, as they do to promote a district even where no action will be taken.
