PROPOSALS TO FINE FOR SIDEWALK LITTER AND REQUIRE MORE VILLAGE TRASH PICK-UP

The Township Committee on Tuesday plans to introduce two ordinances that would require better trash control and issue fines if they are not followed.

The first  requires property owners -- commercial and residential -- to keep the sidewalks and gutters in front of their land free of litter or face fines starting at $100 for the first offense and reaching $500 for the third offense.

The ordinance is below and part of the TC agenda viewable HERE.

In a related move, the TC also will introduce an ordinance requiring certain shops in Maplewood Village to have garbage pick-up four times per week. That proposed law is below:

Is this an effort to spruce up the town or raise revenue? Or both?

Find out at the TC meeting Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Police Station Complex on Springfield Ave.

A public hearings on the ordinances are set for Aug. 7, 2012.

Ridiculous. I live on Parker ave and have kids walking to the high school, passing by the house and littering along the way.

Me too. I live near the Clinton School, and continually have to pick up kids and parents trash. Not to mention the trash that accumulates once the football season starts. What happened to the street sweepers?
