An art film that's more than just a primer on paint; it's a primer on life!
Painting Rules
provides an engaging look at the
philosophy and technique of process painter Jerry Carniglia. Filmed at
the famed MacDowell Colony while he and the directors were fellows, the
documentary shows Carniglia at work and captures the abstract artist's
creative method -- the influence of nature, the importance of being
sensitive to the integrity of materials, the need to exercise restraint -
as well as his inspiration from Aristotle to Keats to Nietzsche.
7:00 pm at Main Library
Free and open to the public.
The
screening will be followed by a discussion with the Emmy-nominated,
award-winning, husband-and-wife filmmakers Marylou & Jerome
Bongiorno.
