TROUBLED DAIBES CONSTRUCTION PROJECT LIKELY DEAD

The unfinished Daibes project
The Township Committee appears ready to throw in the towel on the long-running, and long-troubled, Daibes construction project at the corner of Burnett and Springfield avenues.

More than two years after the project first broke ground with plans to construct a mixed use retail/housing complex, Mayor Vic De Luca indicated Tuesday night that the TC is planning to take whatever action it can to cancel the project and seek to find another use for the site.

See below his comments to Township Attorney Roger Desiderio about how to proceed and asking that new options be brought forth at the next TC meeting on Sept. 15.

We have been following for more than two years the delays that at one point had the TC discussing cancellation of the project last year. The project appeared to be on track as the current shell of a building took shape.

But the lack of progress makes it appear that the building will not be completed in a timely fashion for the TC.
