Mayor Vic Deluca updated residents today on the response to NJ Transit's plan to divert most weekday Midtown Direct trains to Hoboken during July and August due to Penn Station repairs.
In a lengthy update, found HERE, the mayor indicated that there will be three early morning weekday trains into New York, at 5 a.m., 5:50 a.m., and 6:18 a.m. during those summer months.
He also stated that:
* There will be no direct weekday train service from Penn Station to Maplewood, but weekend service will remain as it is today.
* All other trains except for those three early morning routes will go in and out of Hoboken.
* Newark light rail will be increased to allow passengers to travel more easily from Newark Broad Street Station to Newark Penn Station for trains into New York Penn Station.
* PATH trains from Hoboken to Penn Station will increase to every five minutes, while ferry and bus service into New York will be instituted at Hoboken.
* Express bus service will run from South Orange to New York's Port Authority Bus Terminal, with a request for a similar Maplewood bus to be added.
* Hoboken rail tickets will be discounted up to 50%, with PATH, NJ Transit buses, and ferries cross-honoring those tickets.

"I can assure you that the Maplewod Township Committee and South Orange Village President and Board of Trustees will continue to join with other elected officials in continuing to advocate for additional service and travel options for commuters in our two communities," Deluca said in his statement.
