'THE LAUREL' MAKES NY TIMES SUNDAY REVIEW

I have been critical of The Laurel in Maplewood Village for not being open as much as it could be, but that did not stop The New York Times from giving it a whirl.

This review appears in Sunday's paper and seems to like the food, but not the atmosphere. Oh well, good work owner Lauren and hope this draws more business.

Among the review's highlights:

LEAVE it to a former vegan to produce one of the best hamburger platters in northern New Jersey. Lauren Dwyer, whose cookbook collection now includes Fergus Henderson’s “The Whole Beast: Nose to Tail Eating,” serves it at the Laurel, the tiny but excellent restaurant she opened in May in Maplewood.

Listen below:

HIT AND RUN ON A BICYCLIST

PATCH reports:

A Maplewood resident was struck, riding his bicycle to work on Millburn Avenue, around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, by a black SUV that left the scene, police said.
John Cain, 30, said he was heading toward downtown Millburn when the SUV made a right-hand turn on Wyoming Avenue without a turn signal.
Cain said he managed to jump off his bicycle after it was hit, avoiding any injuries.
