TC APPROVES $1 MILLION WOMEN'S CLUB PURCHASE

Township Committee members voted unanimously, 5-0, to approve the purchase of the Women's Club building for just over $1 million Tuesday night.

The sale has been a point of controversy as some oppose spending the funds. But Mayor De Luca has said the land is needed for parking as Maplewood Village expands, but has said the building may be kept and used for a variety of purposes.

Township officials have said the land will add at least 60 parking spaces to the downtown area, but could be part of an expansion of the nearby Inwood Place parking lot.
