FORMER TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE MEMBER IAN GRODMAN AMONG NOMINEES TO REPLACE BROWNLEE

Ian Grodman
Former Township Committee Member and current Maplewood Democratic Committee Chair Ian Grodman heads the list of three nominees put forth Wednesday night to replace TC Member Marlon Brownlee, who resigned earlier this month.

Grodman, along with Amy Jo Curran and Garnet Hall, were chosen by the full Maplewood Democratic Committee for consideration by the TC to replace Brownlee. The TC will vote at its next meeting on Sept. 6 on one of them to serve the remainder of Brownlee's term, which ends on Dec. 31, 2016.

State law dictates that the TC choose from among nominees of the MDC because Brownlee is a Democrat. The MDC met Wednesday night and considered five candidates, which included Kurt Kiley and Craig Goldstein.

Frank McGehee, who won the June primary to replace Brownlee, did not seek the temporary nomination. He is running against Mike Summersgill, the GOP primary winner. That election is set for Nov. 8, with the winner taking office on Jan. 1, 2017.

Grodman previously spent three years on the TC, from 2003 to 2005, while Curran and Hall are current MDC members.

I believe Ian as the interim replacement is an excellent idea. As the leader of the MDC this experience would provide Ian with some terrific insight into the governance process, including closed sessions, can only increase his effectiveness in his role, which is already done well. Later - John
