Essex County College President Edythe Abdullah |
Among its findings:
The report also highlighted the perk package given to Essex County College President Edythe Abdullah. In 2010, she received a $3,500 monthly housing allowance, unlimited use of a Lincoln MKZ and more than $20,000 to relocate from Florida. She charged the school $20,000 for other expenses, including $550 to send gift baskets to the school’s trustees.
Abdullah also took her senior staff out for a $570 dinner on the school’s tab, the report said. Bergen Community College’s then-president treated his staff and trustees to similar meals.
"If community college presidents want to treat their staff to a pricey dinner, they should do that out of their own pocket, not with public dollars," Boxer said. "The same is true for a college president buying gifts for the school’s trustees, especially since those trustees are supposed to be providing the oversight here."
Abdullah was unavailable for comment, an Essex County College spokeswoman said.
