MAPLEWOOD POOL OPENING NOT DELAYED? WHAT ABOUT THE POOL PARTIES?

Speculation has grown rampant about the opening of the Maplewood Pool for the Summer of 2012.

The township website indicates the opening is set for June 16, about the same time of year that it opened last year.

But, so far, it appears several pool parties for local schools and the Girl Scouts are threatened with being canceled or delayed.

Tonight's Township Committee meeting agenda includes an item of discussion to have some of the parties moved to the Maplewood Country Club.

Township official have not responded to inquiries about the status of the pool renovation, which is set to include new water slides, but has also prompted a 30% pool fee increase for 2012.

Recreation Director Keith Knudsen confirmed Tuesday that the pool would open on time, but when asked about the school parties, he declined to comment, but said Mayor Vic De Luca would address the issue at tonight's meeting.

If the opening is delayed, does that mean the rates will go down? Let's hope we get some answers.

I hope they can do something for all the children who look forward to their individual school pool parties. Not fair to them to cancel without any thought going into relocating. It blows my mind though that with the mildest winter in years, they couldn't finish early, never mind on time. Wow.
