Maplewood Village Gets Trash Compactors
The Township’s Public Works Department installed two solar powered trash compactors in Maplewood Village. The “Big Belly” compactors are located on Maplewood Avenue, one near the corner of Baker Street and the other closer to Strawberries Fields Frozen Yogurt. They cost $4,500 each and the funding came from the Clean Communities Grant that Maplewood receives from the State of New Jersey. Direct Environmental Corp. of the Bronx New York is the product vendor.
Public Works Director Eric Burbank said “The compactors have a wireless interface that will alert Public Works when either compactor is full and needs servicing.”
Mayor Victor De Luca is pleased to see the compactors arrive and said “The compactors will address the spillage that happens when the regular trash cans become filled due to heavy usage or larger items such as pizza boxes clog the opening.”
The compactors were approved for location in the Village by the Maplewood Village Alliance who worked with the Township on the color and location of the compactors
