The TC will consider a proposal to fix fines on 11 different township code violations, ranging from yard maintenance to dog and cat licenses, in an effort to streamline the process.
Health Officer Robert Roe said that many of the fines are now based on a range, often from $5 to $500, with the exact amount set by a judge. Under the proposal facing TC review tonight, specific fines would be set.
For instance, if you do not licenses your cat or dog now, it is up to a judge to decide the fine, with a range from $5 to $500. Under the new proposal, a set fine of $100 would be enacted for the first offense, $200 for the second.
One fine, for failing to remove snow from your sidewalk within 12 hours after the snowfall ends, would go up for the second offense.
Roe said currently you pay $100 for the first offense and $50 for the second. The proposal would raise the second offense to $200.

"It is fixing the fine so the court, the township and residents have a more efficient system to work with," Roe said.
