We caught up with former mayor and consummate environmentalist Fred Profeta to discuss one of his latest efforts, blocking plans for a destructive dam to be built in South Mountain Reservation.
The former Township Committee member filled us in on the plan that could seriously hurt the reservation, which has one-third of its land in Maplewood.
Find out more at the Save Our Reservation Facebook page HERE.
The South Mountain Conservancy is also weighing in against the project.

Thanks for the overview - very helpful
Good overview. Build on a flood plain you'll get flooded. There are other alternatives to be explored and implemented. Thx Fred.
Needed to know this. Thanks. I thought perhaps we would have a useable lake / swimming hole area as a result...seems I would be mistaken.
Good overview. The 110-acre detention basin when completely filled during an extreme storm will cover Brookside Drive from Diamond Mill Pond (an eighth of a mile from Glen Ave.) to Painter's Point on the west side of the river. On the east side, it will cover River Trail, the main gravel road through the valley, for nearly a mile. In all these areas, the trees, vegetation and loose soil will be washed away.
