Shortly after he assumed the top board position at Monday's meeting, Eastman said the district plans to launch "additional advertising" and will likely not have a final candidate as quickly as had been planned.
"Our hope had been that we would have a recommendation available as early as our February meeting," Eastman said. "We are not quite going to make that, but we hope to be close to that."
Eastman said the February 17 meeting is expected to be the next step in the process, noting that the board hopes to "evaluate the latest pool of candidates with the additional value of the new wave of advertising."
He said the additional advertising is covered under the current contract with HYA Associates, the search firm hired last year to conduct the candidate hunt, so it will not include any cost increase to the district.
The board in October said that 33 candidates had expressed interest at that point via HYA Associates.
The district has been searching for a new top administrator since former Superintendent Brian Osborne left for a new job last summer. Assistant Superintendent James Memoli has been filling in as acting superintendent since then.
"We hoped to have interviews in late February or early March," Eastman added. "The decision on the superintendent is a fundamental decision."
