Maplewood would receive one of the biggest tax reductions in the state if Gov. Chris Christie's controversial school funding overhaul is implemented.
We reported in June that the new plan, which would provide the same $6,500-per-pupil state aid to each district, would boost aid to the South Orange Maplewood School District by $5,873.17 per student, or some 900%.
A Star-Ledger analysis of the plan posted today finds that it would also give Maplewood among the biggest tax cuts in the state. The review stated the average Maplewood property owner would see his or her property tax bill reduced by $3,164.
That ranks Maplewood 26th out of 368 municipalities in terms of savings in the analysis.
