Accused killer Yves Marcellus |

ELIZABETH — A 25-year-old Union Township man accused of beating another man to death outside a township home July 5 will receive a psychiatric examination, a judge said Wednesday.
Yves Marcellus appeared in court before Judge Brenda Coppla Cuba and politely answered questions from the judge when she asked his correct name and address, and if he understood the charge against him.
"Yes, judge," Marcellus said to the judge during the brief hearing. His hands were cuffed and he was dressed in a khaki prison-issued shirt and pants.
Marcellus, who has lived in the township 10 years, was employed at a local International House of Pancakes until his arrest, lawyers say. However, they also say the defendant has prior arrests, both as an adult and previously as a juvenile.
Marcellus is accused of killing Matthew Murrell, 25, of Maplewood outside a home at 870 Salem Road in Union in the early morning hours of July 5.
