ARMED ROBBERY LEADS WEEK OF BURGLARIES AND STOLEN CARS

For the second time in less than a week, an armed robbery occurred on the eastern side of town involving theft of a cell phone from a pedestrian.

The Maplewood Police reported the following.


January 14, 2014; Robbery: At approximately 0140 AM, an adult male was walking on Boyden Ave near the NJ Transit building.  He was approached by a male and female operating a dark colored vehicle. The female asked for assistance and then the male displayed a handgun and demanded his phone and money. The victim fled the scene and the actors fled North on Boyden and then East on Elmwood Ave without any proceeds. The victim was not injured.

Just three days earlier, a similar armed theft occurred on Jacoby Street. 

In other crime news:

January 14, 2014; Burglary Attempt: A Woodside Rd resident returned home and
found a neighbors ladder against their house.  It does not appear that entry was
made to the residence. 

January 15, 2014; Theft: During the overnight hours, a Honda parked in the
driveway of a Brown St residence had all four tires removed and stolen.

January 16, 2014; Stolen Motor Vehicle: During the previous two day period a
vehicle was stolen from the rear of a home on 44th St.

January 16, 2014; Stolen Motor Vehicle: Between the morning of the 15th and the
morning of the 16th, a U haul truck was stolen from a business on Newark Way.

January 19, 2014; Burglary: During the afternoon hours a garage on Oakland Rd
was entered and a generator and jump kit were stolen.

January 19, 2014; Burglary: During the morning hours a home on Brown St was
entered and multiple items taken.
