DEER HUNT A GOOD THING

Tomorrow begins yet another deer hunt in South Mountain Reservation. This annual event is a great way to curb the deer population that can cause traffic accidents, spread disease and, as the story HERE notes, create an imbalance in the animal population.

As few of the opponents apparently realize, the deer hunt also feeds many poor folks in the area, with a rule requiring hunters to turn over any deer they kill beyond a certain limit to the county, which then donates it to the Food Bank of New Jersey.

I am not a hunter, but hunting to help feed people and take are of these other issues is not a bad thing.
