CONSTRUCTION DUST SPARKS MIDDLE SCHOOL PARTIAL EVACUATION

First construction workers at Maplewod Middle School were cited for smoking on school property a few months ago.

Now comes word that construction dust forced several basement classes to be evacuated today.

From Principal Jeffrey Truppo to parents today:

Dear Maplewood Middle School Community Member,
At approximately 11:00am today, a construction worker on site at the MMS addition cut a piece of concrete near an entrance to the basement classes.  The worker created a great deal of dust in the basement.  While the seven classroom doors located in the basement were shut, I did not feel comfortable having students in the basement until the hall was cleaned and floors were mopped.  Any students who had classes in the basement were relocated for periods 5, 6, and 7.  By 8th period the hall was cleaned and students were allowed to use the basement classrooms and/or their lockers.
It is my expectation that learning is never disrupted by the construction.  After the students leave for the day I will be meeting with the construction supervisor to ensure that the work being completed is monitored more carefully so that this type of incident does not occur again.
Sincerely,
Jeff Truppo
