TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE OKAYS CURBSIDE HOOPS, ONE-WAY STREET

The Township Committee this week approved a new ordinance giving residents the right to use sports equipment along curbside areas, but only between April and December, while also authorizing 44th Street to remain a one-way road for another three months.

The curbside sports law follows months of comment and discussion dating back to last fall when some residents complained they were being cited for placing basketball hoops on the curbside area in front of home to play in the street. The TC lifted the ban on such uses through the end of 2014, but instituted it again for 2015.

The governing body voted, 5-0, on Tuesday on final passage of an ordinance that will allow such use between April and December of 2015.

In other news, the TC also approved keeping 44th Street a one-way road for another two-and-a-half months and will consider the issue again on May 5th. A pilot program has been deemed a success in easing congestion and other problems in that area near Irvington.
