POST OFFICE WORK TO AFFECT KINGS PARKING, RICALTON SQUARE

The first disruption from the former Maplewood Village Post Office project will be a temporary loss of parking in front of Kings and the placement of at least one trailer in Ricalton Square, Mayor Vic Deluca said Tuesday night.

During the Township Committee meeting, Deluca said one of the first impacts of the demolition of the post office, and eventual construction of the new building, will be the creation of a temporary morning loading zone in front of Kings and The Bank of America.

He said Kings has said with the construction blocking part of the parking lot next to Ricalton Square -- which Kings trucks often use to back into the store's narrow driveway -- the store needs another location to park delivery trucks.

The mayor said Kings has asked that the parking spots in front of its store, from its driveway down to the corner at Inwood Place, be designated a loading zone from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays during the demolition/construction.

"We think that there would be minimal disruption," Deluca said.
"The customer base before 10 a.m. at Kings is not all that much."

He also said JMF Properties, which now owns the post office site and is building the three-story, 20-apartment, five-retail shop complex, has asked for space to place two trailers for supplies and offices. Deluca said at least one of those trailers would be placed in Ricalton Square.

"The trailer would not block any other paths to get through the park," Deluca said. "On a temporary basis."

All five TC members agreed with the plans for both issues.
