AMHERST, Mass. -
University of Massachusetts women’s track and field freshman Emilie Cowan
has once again been honored by the Atlantic 10, collecting her third
A-10 Rookie of the Week accolade of the season on Tuesday. The
Maplewood, N.J., native helped UMass finish first in a field of 11 teams
at the URI Coaches’ Tribute Track and Field Invitational last Saturday
by winning the 500m run and competing as part of the Minutewomen’s
first-place 4x400m relay squad.
Cowan bumped her standing to second all-time in the UMass record book in
the 500m with a time of 1 minute, 13.07 seconds, which ranks first in
the Atlantic 10 this season. She also teamed with junior Heather MacLean and fellow freshmen Caroline Leung and Olivia Weir to post a time of 3 minutes, 53.36 seconds in the 4x400m relay, which currently sits third in the A-10.
