MMS MID-YEAR REPLACEMENT MATH TEACHER QUITS AFTER ONE DAY

After just one day on the job, the new math teacher at Maplewood Middle School -- who had been brought in mid-year to replace a popular teacher who left for a post at Columbia High School -- has quit.

You recall last week we reported that sixth grade teacher Julie Skrivanic, who also taught accelerated math and was a popular instructor, was transferred to a new post at CHS. The move drew complaints from several parents not only because it was a surprise mid-year disruption, but also because Skrivanic was liked by many.

Principal Jerrill Adams informed parents on Friday that a replacement had been found, saying the new teacher was Erin Mitchell, who appeared to have less experience than Skrivanic.

Several parents and teachers say their children were told today that Mitchell had departed after less than one day. They were told a substitute teacher would be in place for at least the rest of the week.

We have reached out to Adams for more information and will provide details when they are released.
