SEVERAL THEFTS MARK WEEK, INCLUDING A FEW CELL PHONES

This just in from Maplewood Police:



June 25, 2012: Theft; While walking in the area of Tuscan Rd and Rutgers St, a juvenile female was approached by a juvenile male.  The male requested to use her cell phone.  When she did not reply, the male grabbed the phone and ran South on Rutgers St. 

June 25, 2012: Theft from Vehicle; A highland Ave resident reported that a garage door opener was taken from her Audi.  It is uncertain if the vehicle was locked prior to the theft.

June 26, 2012: Theft; A sanitation worker reports that he was approached by a young black male on Indiana St.  The male requested to use his cell phone. When the sanitation worker handed to phone to the male, the actor ran off with the phone to an awaiting blue pickup truck with it.

June 27, 2012: Theft; A juvenile and his guardian came into MPD Headquarters to report a theft that had occurred on June 25, 2012.  The theft of an unattended iphone occurred at Tuscan school.  The victim observed a black male, late teens to early 20s running from the area and entering a blue, Chevrolet pickup truck.

June 27, 2012: Theft; A female victim was walking on Prospect St in the area of Jennifer Lane when a black male juvenile approached her and asked to use her phone.  She gave the phone to the male at which time he ran to an awaiting blue pickup truck which fled South on Prospect St.  A witness to the theft called police and provided a description of the actor and vehicle.  Patrolman Tannenbaum and R. Wright observed a vehicle fitting the description near the intersection of Springfield Ave and Indiana St.  The vehicle was stopped on S. Pierson Rd and four individuals exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away from it.  All were detained pending investigation.  The vehicle and actor from the theft were identified by the victim.  Quinton McCleese-Stokes ofIsabella Ave, Newark, Jassiem Harper of Orange Ave, Irvington as well as two juveniles from Irvington were arrested. 

June 27, 2012: Motor Vehicle Theft; A Parker Ave resident reports that some time between midnight and 9 AM, a family member’s 1998 Nissan Maxima was taken from the driveway.  The vehicle was recovered in Newark on 06/29.

June 30, 2012: Burglary; A Van Ness Terrace resident reports that sometime between 6 PM and 1130 PM their home was burglarized.  Entry appears to have been made through an unlocked window.  The Detective Bureau responded and is investigating.

July 1, 2012:Medical Aid; Officers and Maplewood Fire Department responded to the Maplewood Pool for a medical emergency.  A life guard had sustained a laceration to his head after striking it on the diving board.  He was transported to University Hospital along with a parent.

July 1, 2012: Robbery; At approximately 130 PM a Tuscan Rd resident reported that she was robbed.  She was standing in the driveway of her home nearBoyden Ave. A male ran from the rear of the driveway, grabbed her purse, knocking her to the ground and entered a dark colored vehicle.  The vehicle made a right onto Boyden Ave from Tuscan Rd and fled the scene.

July 1, 2012: Robbery; At approximately 1155 PM, a patrol unit was flagged down in the area of Boyden Ave and Troy Court.  The male reported that he was just robbed by two males in a black vehicle.  The passenger of the vehicle reportedly exited and pointed a gray handgun at him as he was walking onBoyden Ave.  The male demanded money from the victim.  The victim turned over between two and five dollars before the actor re-entered the vehicle and fled North on Boyden Ave.
