MAPLEWOOD HEALTH DEPARTMENT MOSQUITO ADVISORY

From Maplewood Health Officer Robert Roe:

Mosquito breeding season has begun in our area in force. In order to slow down this breeding, the help of residents is needed. The mosquitoes that are now biting us in Maplewood are primarily the types that breed in stagnant water. In warm weather it can take only five days for a mosquito to go from egg to larva to biting adult.

This breeding can be stopped by simply turning over buckets, garbage cans, wheelbarrows, bird baths, spackle buckets and even containers as small as a cat food can or plant watering tray. A spackle sized bucket can breed hundreds of mosquitoes.

Back yard wading pools must be emptied every few days. For further information contact the Maplewood Health Dept. 973-762-8120 x4400.
