Superintendent Brian Osborne, who will leave the South Orange-Maplewood School District at the end of June for a new job in New Rochelle, N.Y., will be making $90,000 more per year at his new job thanks to our ridiculous state-ordered superintendent salary cap.
New Rochelle Daily Voice, a website that covers that city, reports Osborne met with the school board and staff Tuesday, a day after his appointment. It also reports he will be making $265,000 per year.
That is a major increase from the $175,000 he was forced to accept in SOMA this past year due to the new state superintendent salary cap. Prior to that forced reduction, his salary was at about $225,000.
The SOMA district announced Wednesday that Assistant Superintendent James Memoli would take over for Osborne as a search begins for a permanent replacement.
One wonders what luck they will have attracting a qualified schools chief with such a limited salary cap. Thanks Gov. Christie.
