The former Bumper to Bumper site at Yale Street and Springfield Avenue, which was set to be demolished by the Township, is expected to be torn down by the site's owner, according to Township officials.
Assistant Township Administrator Cesar Correa told the Township committee last week that the Township had received three bids from firms to tear it down, ranging from $27,000 to $94,000.
The site has been unoccupied for many years and at one time was being slated for condominium construction, but that never occurred. Correa said the roof is collapsing and the location has been found to have code and health violations prompting the need for demolition.
But he also said the site's owners have come forward and asked to demolish it themselves. The TC agreed to give the owners until Sept. 6, the next TC meeting, to obtain the demolition permits.
If the permits are not obtained, the TC would award the contract to one of the bidding firms and bill the site's owners for the demolition.
