POLICE CHIEF: SEX ASSAULT ARREST OCCURRED LAST WEEK; PUBLIC SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD

Maplewood Police say the suspect in an Aug. 1 sexual assault in De Hart Park, which was revealed today, was arrested just two days after the incident.

Police Chief Robert Cimino, in an update today, said police should have notified the public sooner about the incident, but indicated the suspect was captured on Aug. 3:

There was investigative work that was being conducted to
narrow the suspect information and verify some details of
the incident prior to making a release.

The suspect was arrested by Union PD on August 3rd and
charged by Maplewood on August 4th. The preliminary
information obtained in the initial report should have been
disseminated to the public sooner than today.
