As The Clarus project takes shape on the site of the former Maplewood Village post office, it turns out that name was among several initially proposed for the housing/retail complex.
As many know, it was originally going to be The Post House. But that was changed to Clarus for the three-story, 20-apartment, five retail space creation that will boast a bank, restaurant and Starbucks.
But there were also nearly a dozen other ideas that popped up, according to some preliminary plans.
Those included Modus, "the Latin term for method or manner"; Vitae, "the Latin term for life"; and even Hark, "meaning to listen," according to the initial marketing material.
Our favorite is The Indy, which the initial marketing slogan describes as a "memorable, modern name" that "speaks to the property's boutique nature and curated collection of amenities."
