It appears there will not be much of a battle in the Township Committee primary election this year with just two candidates running for the two Democratic primary spots, and one challenger in the Republican race, according to papers filed Monday as the deadline passed.
No surprise that Incumbent Democrat Vic Deluca, who is also Maplewood mayor, filed to run for his own seat, with challenger Dean Dafis formally running for the other seat currently held by incumbent India Larrier, who has chosen not to run again.
Both Deluca and Dafis recently received the endorsement of the Maplewood Democratic Committee.
On the Republican side, challenger Mike Summersgill, who lost to TC member Frank McGehee in the 2016 general election, was the only person who filed to run in the GOP primary.
The primaries will be held June 6, with those winners meeting in the general election November 7.
