If there is one thing you can take away from a conversation with this year’s Star-Ledger Coys Fencing Coach of the year, Columbia’s Daryl White, it is that preparation is key.
White at first glance, cuts an unusual figure in on the side of the strip. Tall and powerfully built, White who was an All-American guard for the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers, is not your typical fencing coach. But then again, his team’s are not your typical fencing teams.
They are champions.
For the past four years, White’s teams have made it to the state finals, three of those years, including this season, they took home the state title. In the past four years they have lost a grand total of two meets.
Columbia secret? According to White, “To earn a championship, you have to prepare yourself to do so. I believe in preperation, competition, tradition and physical conditioning”
