CHS STUDENT ARRESTED FOR TERRORISTIC THREATS THAT SPARKED EVACUATION

It turns out that Tuesday's Columbia High evacuation was caused by a student who allegedly left an envelope filled with white powder under a dean's office door.

PATCH reports the student, a 16-year-old, has been arrested for allegedly making terroristic threats:

Shortly after the dean reported a potential hazardous substance at around 1:30 p.m., the administrators evacuated the school and alerted the police. The incident drew the Maplewood Police Department, the Maplewood Fire Department and the Essex County Hazardous Materials unit to the school.
The case has been referred to the Essex County Juvenile Division, said Perna.
The white powder was determined to be benign, said Perna, who would not identify the substance.
