TRAIN STATION CONCESSION LOST BY CHRISTENSEN

Maplewood Concierge boss Art Christensen posted this note on MOL this week:

This morning we received the long awaited call from the Real Estate & Development Department at NJ Transit and were told we came in 2nd place in the RFP bidding process to renew our 14 year lease with them.

There is a protest and rebuttal clause in the RFP contract which we plan to exercise. NJT refused to disclose who the winning bidder is or any details as why we lost the bid. Of course this is very disappointing after we originally agreed to any reasonable increase in the monthly lease payments; and offered to put up $500,000 as security. Talk about being thrown under a bus, but under a train, this is really a kick in the caboose... LOL

We find it interesting that nothing has been mentioned by NJ Transit about returning the $50,000 investment over 50 local merchants raised for the concierge program, which was in support for their program to increase ridership at the train station. Something just doesn’t feel right about this whole matter???

We will be grateful to receive recommendations for an appropriate lawyer, and any suggestions and support as we begin our appeal process. Thank you.
