CRIME STATS SHOW MOST DOWN, BUT ROBBERY AND AUTO THEFT UP

The latest six-month crime report from the State of New Jersey finds that most major crimes during the first six months of 2013 are down in Maplewood compared to the same period last year.

The Uniform Crime Report for the first half of the year, released July 5, revealed no murders, compared to two during the same period last year, with larceny, aggravated and weapons assaults, and burglaries all down.

Robberies, however, were up about 30%, from 10 to 13, while auto theft also rose during that same period by around 35%, from 14 to 19. Simple assault remained the same with 52 such incidents reported in the first six months of both 2012 and 2013.
